Instagram is adding a new image description feature to help visually impaired users

Instagram announced today that it plans to add a new feature to its app so that visually impaired users can easily use the platform. The company plans to add a new text section to the photos to allow users to insert a description of the posted image. This description of the images can be viewed and read by users with normal vision and will be read aloud to visually impaired people.

There are two ways to capture images, one of which is through artificial intelligence. Instagram uses image recognition technology to automatically create images of images so that other users can read them.

The description of images produced by artificial intelligence includes a list of objects that can be seen in the image. Although this text may be a bit rudimentary, it is the only way to describe the automatic images among billions of images on the Instagram platform.

The second way to insert descriptions of images and additional text is to import them directly by users. Instagram has added a new section when posting new images, which will be titled Alt Text, and users can enter a description of their image in this section.

Instagram has announced plans to make its software available to all users, but has not yet announced more details about its plans. Instagram's parent company, Facebook, has created similar features for public access in recent years.

Adding extra text or Alt Text to Facebook's mobile app and Closed Caption to live videos to help the visually impaired are some of the things Facebook has done before.
